The group''s cyber director calls for fresh blood and creative minds.
The Government Security Group has called for expertise from new members “to challenge our current ways of working and help us to deliver as effectively as possible.”
In an open letter, Bella Powell, cyber director at the Government Security Group said the group is looking for proactive thinkers and innovators from outside government, as diversity of thought is essential to help us implement the strategy, and we rely hugely on input from industry, academia and research to achieve this.
“We have always been clear that for the board to be effective in the long term, we need to ensure we’re regularly hearing new voices from different and diverse backgrounds,” Powell said.
Broaden Expertise
In particular, the group is especially interested to hear from those working in AI, offensive cyber, incident response and digital forensics “to really help broaden the range of expertise represented by our board members.”
Powell said: “We don’t just want applications from those who have done this kind of thing before – we want to assemble a diverse range of board members to allow us to tap into the wealth of knowledge and expertise that exists across the spectrum of the cyber community. This includes everyone from executives at multinational corporations to academics and freelance experts.”
Cyber Resilience
The Government Security Group is responsible for raising government cyber resilience by delivering the Government Cyber Security Strategy - which sets a clear target for all government organisations to be resilient to known vulnerabilities and common attack methods - by 2030.
“Since October 2022, we’ve channelled this input through our Government Cyber Advisory Board (GCAB) – a brilliant team of experts dedicated to helping us drive change across government,” Powell said. “They have challenged our thinking, shared best practice and innovative approaches from industry, and connected us with the latest academic research.
“From a personal perspective I have relished the opportunity to build relationships with such a passionate and knowledgeable community, and I’m proud of the strong collaborative culture we’ve built up.”
