Combination to provide AI powered multi-cloud security powerhouse.
Google has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Wiz to invest in improved cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds.
A vendor of cloud services via its security platform, Wiz connects to all major clouds and code environments to help prevent cybersecurity incidents.
Multiple Clouds
The companies said that the combination of Google Cloud and Wiz will provide an end-to-end security platform, provide an automated security platform, and boost the adoption of multi-cloud security and, as a result, customers’ ability to use multiple clouds.
Wiz said its products will continue to work and be available across all major clouds, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud platforms, and will be offered to customers through an array of partner security solutions.
In its statement, Google Cloud said that as more organisations go digital, most deployments are now multi-cloud or hybrid, which introduces complex management challenges. “At the same time, software and AI platforms are becoming deeply embedded across products and operations, bringing new and evolving risks for private enterprises, governments, and other public sector organisations.”
Wiz said its journey to create a platform that both security and development teams love has been shaped by listening to its customers, and while “Wiz has achieved so much in a relatively short period, but cybersecurity moves at warp speed and so must we.
“We expect this change to enable us to execute and innovate even faster. Becoming part of Google Cloud is effectively strapping a rocket to our backs: it will accelerate our rate of innovation faster than what we could achieve as a standalone company.
The acquisition follows a previous attempt to acquire Wiz by Google’s parent Alphabet in July 2024, which the former company rejected.
Safe and Secure
Assaf Rappaport, Wiz Co-Founder and CEO, said: "Wiz and Google Cloud are fully committed to continue supporting and protecting customers across all major clouds, helping keep them safe and secure wherever they operate.
“This is an exciting moment for our company, but an even more important one for customers and partners, as this acquisition will bolster our mission to improve security and prevent breaches by providing additional resources and deep AI expertise.”
Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud, said: “Google Cloud and Wiz share a joint vision to make cybersecurity more accessible and simpler to use for organisations of any size and industry. Enabling more companies to prevent cyber-attacks, including in very complex business software environments, will help organisations minimise the cost, disruption and hassle caused by cybersecurity incidents.”
Commenting, Sandy Carielli, Forrester principal analyst, said: "Google has invested heavily in application security tooling that protects apps deployed not only in GCP but in other clouds (and on-premises). Google’s investment in its Cloud Armor platform has added web application firewall functionality that is competitive not just with Microsoft and AWS but with other WAF providers.
“reCaptcha Enterprise has expanded from a Captcha provider into a fuller bot management platform that addresses a range of business logic attacks. In recent months, Google has begun extending its API management product, Apigee, into broader API security use cases.
“While there are still gaps to fill, adding Wiz to the combined Cloud Armor, reCaptcha, and Apigee offerings moves Google closer to a holistic defense story for cloud applications.”
