Dutch Cancer Screening Service Suffers Massive Data Breach

Services from Clinical Diagnostics have been suspended, and an independent probe is underway.

The personal data of more than 485,000 participants was stolen from the Dutch Centre for Population Screening.

According to Cybernews, the data was breached between July 3rd and 6th and involved participants in the Netherlands' cervical cancer screening program.

Chair Elza den Hertog called the incident "extremely shocking" and apologised to affected women, noting that participation in such screenings is already stressful. Services from Clinical Diagnostics have been suspended, and an independent probe is underway.

Dutch media outlet RTL Nieuws reported that the cyber-criminal group Nova may have stolen 300 GB of sensitive medical data, including from other types of examinations, with some already posted on the dark web.
