Cyber Hiring Gaps Widen Across the UK

Around 17,000 cybersecurity vacancies exist at any given time.

UK cybersecurity job openings are growing rapidly, yet recruitment efforts are struggling to keep pace due to a shortage of skilled professionals.

An analysis by Robert Walters Market Intelligence, published by Infosecurity Magazine, found that around 17,000 cybersecurity vacancies exist at any given time, with the number expected to grow by 10 percent to 12 percent annually.

Key roles in demand include cloud security engineers, SOC analysts, penetration testers, and AI threat analysts. Ajay Hayre, a consultant at the firm, cited a limited talent pool and lengthy hiring processes as major challenges, leading companies to rely more on headhunting and referrals.

The retail sector, currently responsible for 10 percent of vacancies, is expected to ramp up recruitment following recent cyber-attacks on M&S, Co-op, and Harrods. Finance, defence, and tech remain the top hiring industries.
