Hospital has reverted to its business continuity processes, and is using paper rather than digital in the areas affected.
The Wirral University Teaching Hospital has said its current cybersecurity incident is expected to continue over the weekend.
In a statement published yesterday, a Wirral University Teaching Hospital spokesperson said: “We expect the major incident that was declared at the Trust earlier this week to continue over the weekend. The major incident was declared following a targeted cybersecurity issue and we are working hard to rectify the issue.”
They said that after suspicious activity was detected, as a precaution it isolated its systems to ensure that the problem did not spread. This resulted in some IT systems being offline, and the hospital has reverted to its business continuity processes, and is using paper rather than digital in the areas affected.
“We are working closely with the national cybersecurity services and we are planning to return to normal services at the earliest opportunity,” it said. "Our staff are working tirelessly to ensure that safe patient care remains our priority.”
The incident has led to disruption postponements to procedures and some scheduled appointments affected.
