Visionworks Hit With Lawsuit Over Data Breach

Company also accused of not sufficiently defending its systems to protect customer's details.

The American optical retail chain Visionworks has been sued over a data breach it suffered in October.

According to the San Antonio Current, the lawsuit says the company failed to notify 40,000 customers after their data was exposed in a cyber-attack.

Visionworks is also accused of not sufficiently defending its systems, resulting in the exfiltration of customers' names, birthdates, Social Security numbers, home and email addresses, financial details, and medical information.

The lawsuit urged the firm to not only offer all impacted customers at least half a decade's worth of free credit monitoring but also monetary compensation along with a promise to bolster its systems' cybersecurity defenses.
