U.S. Army Soldier Arrested on Data Leak Charges

Cameron John Wagenius suspected of being 'Kiberphant0m'.

A 20-year-old U.S. Army soldier has been arrested on suspicion of selling and leaking sensitive customer call records stolen earlier this year from AT&T and Verizon.

According to Krebs on Security, Cameron John Wagenius was arrested after being indicted on two criminal counts of unlawful transfer of confidential phone records.

Wagenius’ mother said he had been associated with Connor Riley Moucka, a.k.a. “Judische,” a prolific cyber-criminal from Canada who was arrested in late October for stealing data from - and extorting - dozens of companies that stored data at the cloud service Snowflake.

Judische told KrebsOnSecurity that he had no interest in selling the data he’d stolen, and that he preferred to outsource that to Kiberphant0m and others. Wagenius is suspected of being Kiberphant0m, who claimed in posts on Telegram that he was responsible for hacking into at least 15 telecommunications firms, including AT&T and Verizon.

On November 6th, shortly after Moucka's arrest, Kiberphant0m said on BreachForums about stealing AT&T call logs for President-elect Donald Trump and for Vice President Kamala Harris. According to The Register, Kiberphant0m threatened to leak all of the call logs unless AT&T contacted them.
