Cybersecurity remains a priority under the Trump administration.
The Department of Homeland Security has denied that it has been instructed to deprioritise Russian threats, and redirected its experts to focus on other nation-state adversaries.
According to CyberScoop, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said that the Trump administration did not author the memo obtained by The Guardian that focused on Chinese threats and U.S. critical infrastructure defenses.
"CISA remains committed to addressing all cyber threats to U.S. critical infrastructure, including from Russia,” McLaughlin said. “There has been no change in our posture or priority on this front.”
Okta Federal Chief Security Officer Sean Frazier said in a recent company blog post that cybersecurity remains a priority under the Trump administration. He said that the retention of Biden executive orders emphasising secure software development, bolstering Americans' data protections, mandating cybersecurity requirements for federal contractors, and advancing artificial intelligence and cybersecurity research show how seriously this is being taken, reports SC Media.
Frazier noted that AI development could also face reduced hurdles — which could help in strengthening automated threat detection but could also prompt more cost-cutting initiatives among companies — as well as potentially increased public-private cybersecurity partnerships and a greater focus on multi-factor authentication and other identity security protections.
