UK Tech Graduates Struggle as AI Reshapes Hiring

Candidates feel they are being rejected by algorithms rather than people.

New graduates in computer science are finding it increasingly difficult to secure entry-level jobs as AI changes the technology workforce.

According to BBC News, a 2024 graduate from Newcastle University said many "junior" positions now require multiple years of experience, while AI tools are taking on tasks once used to train newcomers.

Also, recruitment processes themselves are becoming heavily automated, frustrating candidates who feel they are being rejected by algorithms rather than people.

Industry leaders warn that cutting off opportunities for junior developers could threaten the future talent pipeline, though some executives argue that younger candidates' fluency with AI tools could make them highly valuable in the long term.
