Research: Cybersecurity Spending Growth on the Decline

Cybersecurity's portion of overall IT spending dropped by a percent year-on-year.

Uncertainties in economic and geopolitical conditions have prompted cybersecurity budgets to increase by only four percent on average this year, compared with eight percent growth in 2024.

According to a report from IANS Research and Artico Search, and reported by CFO Dive, cybersecurity's portion of overall IT spending dropped from 11.9% in 2024 to 10.9% in 2025, marking the first decline in half a decade.

Additional findings revealed that cybersecurity was only the second leading concern among chief financial officers, behind the economy and ahead of interest rates.

"Once again, we find that security budgets are not immune to macro conditions. Despite most companies identifying cyber as a top five business risk, most CISOs are not receiving budget increases commensurate with the increase in security program scope," said Artico cybersecurity practice partner Steve Martano.

Such findings come as Gartner predicted global end-user information security spending to increase from $193 billion in 2024 to $213 billion by the end of this year.
