Users were met with a message saying 'attackers may be trying to steal your information'.
Oldham Council's housing website was impacted by a cyber-attack, although it is unclear if any data was breached.
Concerns were raised on social media when a display message that claimed the council's 'Find A Home' site was unsafe, Oldham Council has confirmed to media that third-party management systems have been subjected to the attack.
The display message read that 'attackers may be trying to steal your information' and would not allow users to enter the website.
A spokesperson from the council explained that the system is managed by a third-party company, who notified the council of a security breach on their system.
They said: "While we do not believe Oldham’s system has been breached, the system is currently unavailable as we are insisting on several additional tests and assessments being run to review all aspects of the system.”
Earlier this month, Greater Manchester residents were impacted by an attack on local housing company Locata - which provides housing software for councils across the country - that led to thousands of users being sent a phishing email asking them to "activate your tenancy options" and hand over personal data.
