Stryker dismisses malware use, data theft following cyberattack

Michigan-based medical device maker Stryker has emphasized that its systems have not been impacted by any malware and that there has been no evidence suggesting any data exfiltration following a cyberattack against its internal Microsoft corporate environment last week, which the pro-Palestinian, Iran-linked Handala hacktivist group claimed to have resulted in the disruption of more than 200,000 systems, servers, and mobile devices, as well as theft of 50 TB of data, according to BleepingComputer.

While all Stryker medical devices remain safe to use in the wake of the intrusion, operations of the firm's electronic ordering systems continue to be offline. Investigation into the attack — which was noted by a source to involve an admin account compromise prior to the erasure of data from almost 80,000 devices on Mar. 11 — is still underway. Stryker has also noted ongoing supply chain restoration efforts. "Our core transactional systems are already on a clear path to full recovery," said Stryker.
