Advania: UK firms managed security internally as trust wanes

New research from IT services firm Advania reveals a significant shift among UK mid-market organizations, with 65% now managing cybersecurity internally.

New research from IT services firm Advania reveals a significant shift among UK mid-market organizations, with 65% now managing cybersecurity internally as confidence in external technology vendors declines, ITPro reports.

The Building Core Resilience 2025 report, surveying 500 UK IT leaders, found that 40% believe vendors prioritize enterprise clients over them, a 12% increase from the previous year, while only 11% feel vendors act in their best interests.

Pravesh Kara, Advania UK's Director of Security and Compliance, cautioned that this self-reliance can lead to overconfidence, warning that without external expertise, firms risk fighting "yesterday's battles with yesterday's defences."

The study also identified internal threats, such as staff turnover, skills gaps, and misaligned strategy, as more disruptive than external factors for 57% of respondents. Budget pressures are dominated by rising software licensing fees (53%) and additional cloud costs (43%). Although security awareness training is improving, with 32% of firms now conducting monthly sessions, Kara emphasized that real-time guidance is more effective than periodic training.
