July Allianz Life Breach Confirmed to Include Personal Details

Hacked information includes names of customers, addresses, phone numbers and emails.

The July cyber-attack at U.S. insurance firm Allianz Life compromised the personal data of 1.1 million customers.

Last month, SC UK reported that Allianz Life had most of its 1.4 million customers' data compromised following a data breach of its third-party cloud-based customer relationship management system on July 16th.

This involved the theft of personal data belonging to clients, financial professionals, and certain employees, according to the company, who emphasised the intrusion to be contained within the company alone.

Now confirmed by breach notification service Have I Been Pwned, the hacked information includes names of customers, addresses, phone numbers and emails. According to Reuters, Allianz Life spokesperson declined to comment at the moment, as the company's investigation is ongoing.

Jon Abbott, CEO of ThreatAware, said the stolen personal information of 1.1 million customers is significant. “The sensitive and valuable information held in CRM tools is exactly why it’s targeted by attackers. The data can be used by other cybercriminals for identity theft and phishing campaigns.”
