ISC2 Announces Workshops for Common Leadership Skills

ISC2 finds leadership skills which are most lacking.

A survey of security professionals, 48 percent of whom have formal leadership responsibilities, has found that 85 percent believe communication is the most important leadership quality.

The survey by ISC2 found the 259 survey participants most frequently said the skills they need to strengthen on their path to a leadership role are “communication” and “business acumen.”

However, the findings reveal that formal leadership training remains largely inaccessible for most respondents, with less than 63 percent reporting they have received such formal training. Instead, 81 percent said they primarily developed leadership skills through on-the-job experiences with supervisors and managers.

The survey results come as ISC2 launches a series of eight virtual workshops, in collaboration with the Cybersecurity Leadership Institute, to enable attendees to develop strategic thinking, business acumen and communication skills essential for becoming more effective cybersecurity leaders.

The ISC2 Cyber Leadership Program is scheduled to start on January 13, April 7, June 23 and September 8, 2025, and provide formal and informal cybersecurity leaders with training sessions, resources and an opportunity to share experiences with a cohort of professionals committed to cybersecurity leadership.

ISC2 members can earn up to 35 CPE credits for completion of the entire program. Registration for the virtual Cyber Leadership Program is available here
