Conservatives Apologise Over Email Address Disclosure

Tories CC more than 300 email addresses in registration request blunder.

The Conservative Party has apologised after hundreds of people's email addresses were disclosed without their permission.

The email was sent yesterday to 344 people from Conservative Campaign Headquarters asking recipients to submit their registration for the Conservative Party conference later this year.

A Conservative Party spokesman later told Yahoo News the email was genuine and had come from Conservative HQ, and was neither spam nor phishing.

He said: “We are aware of an issue relating to a conference registration email and are currently investigating the cause of this. We apologise to those affected and have self-reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office.”

A follow up email apologised for the error. A statement from the Information Commissioner's Office, said it was investigating and "failure to use BCC correctly in emails is one of the top data breaches reported to us every year.”
