#BHEU24: Global Politics Should Influence Business Operations

Prepare for battle with the army you have and with prepare for flexibility.

We are entering into a period of chaos, or more chaos, or even accelerating chaos.

Opening the Black Hat Europe conference in London, founder Jeff Moss said in times of conflict, you need to organise to operate, as you cannot operate and then organise. He also said when you go to war, you go with the army you have - not the army you want. “You better get your stuff organised to operate to answer questions from leadership,” he said.

Focusing on ongoing global conflicts, Moss said he “doesn't like how 2025 is shaping up”, saying that “it feels like things are accelerating right now” and businesses don’t want to be left behind.

Highlighting the South Korean coup, the situation in Gaza and recent election win by Donald Trump, he said these instances are often tests for resiliency, and for nations to see what they can get away with, and what is acceptable.

Employees Impacted

Also, Moss said businesses will want to know how many employees are impacted in these nations and instances. They will also ask if suppliers need to be re-evaluated if they are not reachable anymore, “because you want to be able to switch products quickly if you have to.”

He also said that “a monoculture, monoview is not going to work out too well in a chaotic environment” because you need a mix of skills of people, process and technology, and people that have worked at small businesses “that were super nimble, huge hyperscalers that can build giant systems.”

Moss also recommended not getting locked into technology contracts, saying he wouldn't want to have all his money in one asset when he cannot move, and would want to have some flexibility to move around.
