Verizon 'Contained' Salt Typhoon Attack

The U.S. telco says it contained the activities associated with this particular incident.

Verizon has said it has secured its network after being targeted by the Salt Typhoon cyberespionage group.

In a statement given to TechCrunch, Verizon spokesperson Richard Young said the company has “contained the cyber incident brought on by this nation-state threat actor,” and that it has not detected any threat actor activity on its network “for some time.”

Verizon said that the hackers specifically targeted a “small number of high-profile customers in government” and upon learning of this incident, it took several key actions to protect its customers and its network. This includes partnering with federal law enforcement and national security agencies, industry partners, and private cybersecurity firms, Vandana Venkatesh, Verizon’s chief general officer, said.

“After considerable work addressing this incident, we can report that Verizon has contained the activities associated with this particular incident,” Venkatesh said.

Nine U.S. telecommunications firms are now confirmed to have been compromised by Salt Typhoon by U.S. officials.
