Coordinated raids resulted in two arrests and the seizure of assets.
A joint operation led by Romanian and UK law enforcement agencies, with support from Europol and Eurojust, successfully dismantled an international ATM fraud ring that netted over €580,000 in illicit profits.
The coordinated raids, which took place in the UK in December 2024 and Romania on July 23rd, resulted in two arrests and the seizure of assets including luxury vehicles, electronics, and real estate. According to Infosecurity Magazine, investigators uncovered the group’s use of the Transaction Reversal Fraud technique, which manipulates ATM machines by cancelling transactions at a precise moment to steal cash manually.
The criminal network also engaged in card skimming, payment and transport card counterfeiting, and bin attacks, where software is used to generate valid card numbers for unauthorized transactions.
"This operation shows the power of coordinated international action against organized financial crime," said a Europol spokesperson.
