Only one in five UK business leaders believe their cyber insurance will provide adequate protection in the event of a breach, according to new research from Cohesity. The survey highlights growing anxiety among business leaders given the heightened threats enterprises face, with concerns over losses in the wake of an attack also growing, with further coverage provided by IT Pro.
The Cohesity survey revealed that just 22% of UK business leaders are confident that cyber insurance policies will cover the full costs and revenue losses associated with a cyber attack. CEOs estimate that such an attack could reduce their organization's revenue by an average of 15.17%, though one in five businesses have not conducted business impact modeling to understand potential attack costs. This lack of modeling could lead to significant insurance shortfalls.
Fraser Hutchison, VP UKI at Cohesity, emphasized that cyber insurance should not be seen as a substitute for resilience, urging organizations to understand policy limitations, model potential impacts, and prepare for uncovered losses. The Association of British Insurers reported a 17% increase in cyber insurance policies in 2025, with £197 million paid out, indicating a growing reliance on these policies despite the identified gaps in coverage and understanding.
