U.S., Canadian, and UK law enforcement agencies have dismantled an international cryptocurrency scam that has stolen $45 million across over 20,000 cryptocurrency wallets as part of Operation Atlantic, reports The Register.
Operation Atlantic, which is spearheaded by the U.S. Secret Service, the Ontario Securities Commission, the Ontario Provincial Police, and the UK National Crime Agency, has also returned $12 million worth of cryptocurrency to over 3,000 victims of "pig butchering" scams, as it launches a probe into another $33 million associated with investment fraud.
The initiative emphasizes the importance of international partnerships in combating cryptocurrency fraud, according to U.S. Secret Service Office of Field Operations Assistant Director Brent Daniels. "Through this operation, investigators prevented millions of dollars in fraud losses and disrupted millions more in fraudulent transactions," said Daniels. Such a development comes after an FBI report detailing an escalation of both cryptocurrency fraud-related complaints and losses between 2024 and 2025.
