National Public Data Closes Down After Major Data Breach

Company had declared bankruptcy in October.

A Florida-based company who leaked Social Security numbers has officially shut down.

“It is with sincere regret that we inform you that National Public Data, after two decades serving the data industry, has closed,” a notice on the website now states. The company ceased data sales in September, reports PC Mag.

In the August incident, an estimated 272 million unique Social Security numbers and 600 million phone numbers were exposed. This led to a bankruptcy filing in October, to help it respond to litigation and investigations, and reported losing customers, citing the reputational damage from the breach.
