M&S Staff "Working Day and Night" Managing Cyber Incident

CEO thanks customers for ongoing support.

In a new email to subscribers, M&S chief executive Stuart Machin has said the company is “working day and night to manage the current cyber incident and get things back to normal for you as quickly as possible.”

In a first communication since the announcement that M&S was dealing with a ‘cyber incident’, Machin apologised for not being “able to offer you the service you expect from M&S over the last week” and thanked customers for support.

“Our teams are doing the very best they can, and are ready to welcome you into our stores - whether you are shopping for food or for fashion, home and beauty this bank holiday weekend.”

Rob Ainscough, chief identity security advisor at Silverfort, said: “I empathise with the defenders who are working tirelessly to recover from the incident and protect the business. I’ve seen firsthand how challenging it is to stay ahead of identity-based threats in today’s evolving threat landscape.

“With organisations working across on-premise, cloud, and SaaS systems, exploitable identity gaps can exist anywhere. In a world where attackers seek to exploit weak points in identity as their primary way in, every single digital identity presents a risk.”
