Financial Information Suspected Accessed in Wildlife Park Attack

Fota Wildlife Park warns anyone who made transactions on the website in past three months to be wary.

An Irish wildlife park is contacting “all potentially impacted customers” after it was hit by a cyber-attack.

In an email Fota Wildlife Park warned customers that their financial information may have been compromised due to the breach. In steps taken after the incident was detected, it removed all access to the user accounts on the website, reports The Journal.

It warned anyone who made transactions on the website between 12th May and 27th August that “there is a risk that your financial information may be compromised”.

The wildlife park “strongly” recommended that customers cancel the credit or debit card used to make payments on its website between 12 May and 27 August, and   review their bank account and credit card statements “to identify potential suspicious activity which may indicate that your account has been compromised.”

Ryan McConechy, CTO of Barrier Networks, said: “It’s not yet clear what incident has taken place, but based on the information available, it sounds like an unauthorised intruder has gained access to the Park’s network and been able to access customer bank information. This could also suggest the data was stored in plain text, which would be very concerning.”
