Illumio Positions Microsegmentation at Centre of Modern Enterprise Defence

Illumio wins top recognition in the Best Enterprise Security Solution category for its breach containment platform, positioning microsegmentation and visibility as critical controls for limiting the impact of modern cyberattacks across increasingly complex enterprise environments.

The company describes its Illumio Platform as the industry’s first purpose-built breach containment solution for large enterprises, designed to reduce attacker movement across hybrid infrastructure, cloud environments, data centres and endpoints.

At the centre of the platform is an AI-powered security graph that provides real-time visibility into communications, dependencies and exposure across enterprise estates, enabling organisations to identify risk and apply segmentation policies more effectively.

Illumio argues that traditional perimeter-focused security models are no longer sufficient against modern threats, particularly as organisations adopt hybrid infrastructure and distributed cloud architectures. Instead, the company focuses on limiting blast radius through label-based segmentation policies designed to simplify deployment and reduce the operational complexity often associated with traditional network segmentation projects.

The company continues its product expansion across others areas including Illumio Insights, AI-assisted remediation, Kubernetes security, Microsoft Sentinel integration and operational technology partnerships, positioning the platform as an evolving component of broader zero trust and cyber resilience strategies.

A major focus of the winning entry is enterprise scalability and operational simplicity. Illumio cites customer deployments involving rapid implementation and large-scale segmentation projects across highly complex environments, including eBay, Marriott Vacations and major banking and insurance organisations. Its SaaS platform delivers updates weekly or daily, while on-premises releases are issued three to four times per year, the company said.

Judges described Illumio as one of the standout entries in the category and praised the company for elevating breach containment and microsegmentation as strategically important — but often underestimated — areas of enterprise cybersecurity.

“A winner-level submission with outstanding evidence of enterprise-scale impact, customer trust and measurable security outcomes.”

The judging panel highlighted the strength and depth of the supporting evidence, describing the entry as highly credible, enterprise-focused and exceptionally well supported by customer outcomes and third-party validation.

Judges specifically pointed to IDC data showing a reported 33.8% market share, along side a Forrester Total Economic Impact study citing 111% ROI. The panel also highlighted several enterprise deployment examples, including eBay segmenting 3,000 servers and a global insurer reportedly achieving a 99% reduction in attack surface exposure.

Customer validation from organisations including Everywhen and Davies further strengthened the submission, judges said, while endorsement from Microsoft’s Global CISO was viewed as additional evidence of the platform’s credibility and strategic relevance.

Because of the scale of Illumio’s enterprise adoption, including deployments across 21 Fortune 100 organisations, the company was a clear leader in operationalising breach containment at enterprise scale. Judges ultimately viewed the platform as a strong example of how cybersecurity strategies are shifting away from purely preventative controls toward resilience-focused architectures designed to contain attacks when breaches inevitably occur.
