Comcast: AI is Aiding Both Positive and Negatives of Cybersecurity

Report also finds increase in phishing attacks as part of advanced attacker tactics.

AI plays a critical role in both amplifying cyber risks and offering tools to mitigate those threats, with defenders increasingly using AI for malware analysis and anomaly detection.

Based on the analysis of 29 billion cybersecurity events detected across its security customers in 2023, the Comcast Business 2024 Cybersecurity Threat Report highlights a rapidly evolving threat landscape driven by sophisticated threat actors, including the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in both offensive and defensive cybersecurity efforts.

"Armed with a newfound arsenal of AI-based capabilities and a landscape littered with vulnerable systems, cybercriminals are having a moment," said Noopur Davis, chief information security and product privacy officer at Comcast Corporation.

Davis explained that despite the advancements in cybercriminal tactics, enterprises can still enhance their resilience by combining advanced protection, detection, managed services, and vigilant security practices.

Among the key findings, the report notes a surge in phishing attacks, with over 2.6 billion interactions detected, while the growing use of encrypted channels and proxies to mask malicious activities are often used.
