These attacks are different from brute force attacks, company claims.
Citrix has addressed ‘password spraying’ attacks which have been targeted at NetScaler appliances.
Saying these are “distinct from brute force attacks” as instead of threat actors trying many passwords against a single account, they try a small set of common passwords against many accounts. This is done to avoid detection and account lockouts.
The Citrix and TIBCO Cloud Software Group said the increase in password spraying attacks directed at NetScaler appliances are characterised “by a sudden and significant increase in authentication attempts and failures, which trigger alerts across monitoring systems, including Gateway Insights and Active Directory logs.”
