Cybersecurity implications of Claude Mythos explored by US, UK

AI tools, such as Anthropic's Claude Mythos, were noted by U.S. and UK cybersecurity experts to significantly reduce the technical barrier among threat actors, according to CyberScoop.

Intrinsic constraints posed by patching could overwhelm organizations facing mounting cyber intrusions that use AI for accelerated vulnerability discovery and exploitation, showed a joint report from the Cloud Security Alliance, the SANS Institute, and the Open Worldwide Application Security Project, which was co-authored by former high-level cyber officials and private sector counterparts.

"The cost and capability floor to exploit discovery is dropping, the time between disclosure and weaponization is compressing toward zero, and capabilities that previously required nation-state resources are now becoming broadly accessible," wrote lead authors SANS Institute Chief AI Officer Robert Lee, Knostic CEO Gadi Evron, and CSA Chief Analyst Rich Mogull.

Another report from the UK's AI Security Institute revealed that Claude Mythos significantly reduced the hacking proficiency gap between highly-skilled threat actors and non-experts. Almost 73% of expert-level Capture the Flag problems were resolved by Mythos, a feat that could not be achieved by a single large language model before April 2025.
